San Antonio

This past weekend, we meet up with Matt, Renee, and Logan (pictured left) in Gruene and San Antonio.  We had lunch at the Grist mill, which was delicious as usual.  On the way to San Antonio we stopped at the Snake Farm and Exotic Pets.  Jean waited in the car but the others went in and enjoyed it.

In San Antonio, Jean took a nap while the others went to see the Spanish Governor's Palace.  They said it wasn't exciting.  For dinner we meet up with Matt's high school friend, Tim, and his wife at a Mexican restaurant on the river walk.  The food was good.

Sunday, we toured the Alamo, walked the river walk, and saw Navarro's place.  We said goodbye and headed back to Houston.
 

Welcome Walker Thomas Self!

Our new nephew is born!  Walker Thomas Self arrived on September 28, 2013, at 2:38pm.  He was 7 pounds, 20.5 inches long.  We are so excited to be godparents, as well as uncle and aunt, to him.  

Here is Walker with his mom Erica.  They are both doing well, so is dad Jud.

Telling my LYLAS

Told 2 of my closest friends tonight, Toni & Marti.  We meet up at Soma Sushi for dinner and I did a toast to the 4 of us getting together.  They were confused since there were only 3 of us.  Then I told them I figured I counted as 2 now.  Marti made the connection and they both got very excited.  We also found out Marti and her boyfriend Jonathon are not moving to Utah! 

I am very excited to have both of these girls in Speck's life.  They have been great friends to me and I know they will love Speck.  Toni has 2 beautiful daughters so I'm sure I'll be going to her for a lot of advice!

Heartbeat

Today was the 2nd obgyn visit.  Last visit they told us nothing exciting would happen so Lucas did not come.  They were wrong! Jean got to hear the heartbeat! It was around 160bpm and it was very exciting.  Next visit they are going to do the first ultrasound and Lucas is definitely coming to that!

Foster Jessica & the Coopers

In July 2012, we started fostering with Pughearts of Houston.  It is something that Jean loves to do and Peanut gets to have some company during the day.  We got a new foster named Jessica today.  Not such a fan of the name considering we have a good friend named Jessica.  But she is very sweet, playful, and is a loud snorer.  Peanut doesn't seem to care about her too much.

We meet the Coopers for dinner tonight and to tell them about Speck.  Laurel was the most excited person we've told in person yet :)  They have an adorable 2yr old daughter, named London, and are excited to welcome us to the "club".

I'm not the only one

Got an exciting text the day we came back from Istanbul.  Katie Zeglin is also pregnant and due in April!  Katie and Jenny Barcenas are good friends from our church.  This is us at Katie's bachelorette party in March.  Sadly Katie left us for Dallas but still visits occasionally. 

Istanbul Sept 6-15

We went to Istanbul on vacation last week.  Overall it was a good trip and we got to see a lot.  Sadly Jean was nauseous during most of the trip and wasn't a big fan of the food.   We bought rugs at a great value thanks to the family and friends of one of Lucas's coworkers.

Telling Lucas's Sisters

We told Lucas's sisters the day we got back from Istanbul.

Erica and Jud were first.  We tried to tell them 3 or 4 times before they finally heard it.

We told Heather and Blake by saying that we didn't really get Blake anything from Istanbul but in a couple of months, we would give him a cousin.

Happy birthday Jean & Kathy

Both Jean and her aunt Kathy celebrated their birthday today. Jean celebrated by seeing sites around Istanbul and Kathy by kayaking.

Happy birthday Blake

Happy birthday to our first nephew Blake Thomas Barrett! It is his golden birthday, he is 5 on the 5th.  We love you Blake and wish we could see you more!

Jean's Dad came to visit

Jean's Dad had some business in Beaumont so he spent Tuesday night with us and then he and Jean went out to breakfast.  It was really nice to be able to see him and to show him our tiny apartment (which took all of 30 secs). 

Minneapolis and meeting Logan

Over Labor Day weekend, we went to Minneapolis to meet our new nephew Logan and see Lucas's brother, Matt, and his wife, Renee.  Logan is absolutely adorable and we love him.  I think he might be mad at Lucas for not letting him suck on Lucas's nose.

We took it easier while we where there which was nice.  Lucas helped Matt repair their backyard fence that had been damaged in a storm.  We went for a walk around the river, watched some movies, saw a museum, and mainly just hung out.  It's nice to be around family, which is something we miss living in Texas.

We also told them about Speck.  They are happy and Renee is voting for a girl.    

Telling Sarah

Told Sarah, Jean's sister, today.  We were waiting for our flight from Minneapolis to Houston when she called.  Sarah was telling us her plan about driving Jean's grandparents out to Houston for Thanksgiving and how it would require a change to her flights.  Jean told her that if she had to delay her flight instead of switching it, then she could use it to come see us in April.  She was confused until we told her that she might want to come down to see her new niece or nephew.  She got very excited and started to talk in a high pitched voice (her excited voice).  Needless to say, she will be coming down in April now.
